I’m brand new to electronics and found this forum through the Bag of Tricks YouTube channel. I’m a sound recordist working in tv and film in the UK and abroad and am very interested to learn about the equipment and tools that I use to do my job every day. I’m thirsty for knowledge!
Did you have any ideas for your own projects in mind and/or are you interested in building any of the ones Leo has been developing here over the last few months?
Hi Andy, I’m a complete beginner so I wouldn’t have any idea how to build anything right now. I’m still learning the fundamentals. I’m mostly interested in electronics that relate to audio as I’m a sound recordist. At some point it would be great to have a go at building a guitar amp but that’s way beyond me at the moment. Guitar effects pedals would also be cool.
I find the most fruitful projects are ones where I want to achieve something specific. That keeps the motivation up. And after prioritising based on something I actually want to have, I pick ones that involve learning new areas of electronics, although I try to only have one or two major new things to keep it achievable. It means I’m always a beginner tho’!
Your idea of a guitar pedal seems pretty realistic for a first project. Try to find one that’s fairly classic tho’ rather than one of the ones that relies on hand picking components or some odd properties of a specific transistor in a weird configuration.
